This is a really great update. Better security is never a bad thing, and a cleaner Customizer means you'll be able to work on your sites much faster!

If you have a hard time finding an option in the Customizer that used to be there, check the Layout panel. If a section has been moved, that's where it ended up.

This is a quick fix for any installations running PHP 5.2.

This was a fatal error on those old PHP versions.

If you were affected by this error, see here for instructions on fixing it.

According to WordPress.org, 7% of WordPress installations are running on 5.2 still. GP 1.3.32 was live for a couple hours on a Sunday, so hopefully this means there was only a tiny fraction of people affected.

If you're running PHP 5.2, you should contact your hosting ASAP and ask them to update you to the latest stable version. 5.2 is very old and unsupported, so it's very vulnerable to hacking and other issues.

The .hentry class was removed from pages, which should stop Google from reporting structural data errors resulting from missing author and date elements.

Every PHP file now prevents direct access, stopping people from trying to view any of the theme files. This hardens the security of your site a little bit more.

GP Premium 1.2.90 has officially been released.

This is the biggest update GP Premium has ever had, and is the result of months of hard work and testing.

This update has been tested by numerous volunteers - thank you so much to everyone who helped me make sure everything is working well!

New Sections

The biggest change is with the Sections add-on. It has been completely re-built from the ground up, and in my opinion is much better looking and more efficient.

Typography

Typography also underwent a massive change. The Customizer now shows the top 200 most popular Google Fonts. You can adjust this number, or include fonts are aren't included using this guide.

Also, previously your website had to loop through the 800+ fonts on every page load just to grab the font category and variants. Now, the category and variants are saved to your database, so there's no need to loop through all of those fonts every time you load a page. This is a big boost to performance that I'm super happy with.

GeneratePress 1.3.42 has been released.

This is a pretty major release with a couple new features and a lot of re-written code.

New Footer Bar Widget

One of the cool things in this release is the addition of the Footer Bar Widget area.

This widget area is displayed in the same area as your copyright. You can add anything to it, including the Custom Menu widget to add a footer menu to your website.

You can change the alignment of this new footer widget area in Customize > Layout > Footer.

Dynamic CSS

Dynamic CSS has been re-written using a class. It's also only added when completely necessary. For example, CSS that has to do with your content layout being set to "Separate Containers" will only be written if you have that option set.

Defaults.css

A new file containing all of your default CSS has been added. This means if you haven't changed an option in the Customizer from the default, your site will use the CSS inside defaults.css instead of writing it into the head of your website code. This greatly reduces the amount of CSS you see inline when viewing your website source.

Header and Footer moved to functions

The header element and footer elements have been moved into functions so you can easily move them or unhook them if necessary.

New GeneratePress admin screen

The Appearance > GeneratePress page has been completely re-designed to look a little more modern/simple.

General clean up

A lot of code has been cleaned up and optimized in this release. We were able to add new features while reducing the overall size of the theme!

GP Premium 1.2.95 has been released.

This is a fairly large release, mostly dealing with code clean up.

The Top Bar widget area has been added to the free theme, so all of the applicable options for it (Colors, Typography etc..) are in this release.
